What is gout?
Gout is the most common and is a complex form of arthritis that can affect anyone’s joint, gout is generally characterized by sudden severe attax of continuous pain redness swelling tenderness enzymes that could be in one or more joints, the most commonly affected joint in gout is the big toe. Arthritis is the umbrella term for gout it is because there is a board range of joint pain and joint diseases as well in this condition, there are some form of arthritis that can inflamed the joints while some of them don’t. Gout is the most common form of arthritis that includes inflamation and pain in joints that is due to deposition of the crystals of uric acid. Rather than to it can also affect the ankle, foot, wrist, hand, elbow and the knee joint.
Who gets affected due to gout?
There is no such research that proves who gets affect due to go out but it is seen that man are more likely to get affected than women, it can affect anyone. This is due to higher level of uric acid in the male body. In women it is generally seen after the menopause because after the menopause process the uric acid levels get higher.
The most common factors that contribute more towards Gout are:-
- Heart diseases
- Congestive heart failure
- Obesity or overweight
- Any past family history of gout
- Hypertension
- Diabetes
- Cirrhosis of liver
- Kidney diseases
Also there are certain habits that can lead to development of gout which include consumption of high animal proteins diet, over consumption of alcohol and drugs, increased volume of diuretics.
What causes gout?
The normal human body makes uric acid during the breakdown of chemicals that are called as purines found in certain drinks and food that includes meat red meat , fish,sardians, mussels, tuna. And also in drinks which include fructose and are over sweetened, and also alcohol specially beer. This by product generally goes through the kidney and exits the body while urination. Therefore sometimes the body produces too much amount of uric acid or the kidneys are unable to purify it properly, due to which these concentrate crystals begin to form in the body. When this happens these sharp crystals that are made of you rate surrounds the tissue that causes pain. These sharp crystals causes go out as they get deposited over the joints. Gout generally occurs when the uric acid crystals accumulate in the joint which can cause intense pain redness and swelling over the joint.
Symptoms of gout?:-
The general episode of gout is called as the gout attack, it can be very painful and can also happen quit suddenly most commonly during overnight, the most common symptoms in joints that occur during out attack are:-
1) High intense joint pain- intense joint pain is one of the most common and initial symptom of the gout, gout generally effect the greater to and can also affect other joints like ankle knees elbow hand etc the pain is most likely to be severe within first 8 to 12 hours of the attack.
2) Redness- there will be extreme amount of redness in the affected joint.
3) Inflammation and Stiffness- the affected joint will be inflammated warm and Stiffed due to the deposition of uric acid.
3) Tenderness- along with the high pain the joint will also become very tender even to a very light touch.
4) Warmth- extreme warmth will be felt on the joint as the joint is on fire.
How to manage gout attack?
There are certain tipd which can be used to manage the gout attack:-
- NSAIDS
- Quitting alcohol intake
- Maintain proper diet
- Limit over intake of red meat and liver
- Avoid taking water pills or diuretics
- Limit eating sea food
- Quit smoking
- Avoiding drinks that contains sweetening agents
- Drinking plenty of water and juice
- Elevating the joint above the heart level
- Applying ice on the joint to remove inflammation
- Exercise regularly
- Take proper precautions while joint pain
- Regular checkups
- No extra stress shall be provided to the joint
